No
matter who you are or where you come from everyone has a best friend. These
come in many forms, whether it’s the same sex as you or the opposite sex,
older, younger, family member, lifelong friend or a sibling. No matter who it
is…almost everyone has one. There are however things that differentiate the
normal “friend” and the best friend.
1) They are NOT afraid to tell you how it is.
If you’ve done something to annoy them, they don’t pussy foot around it. They
tell you straight and sometimes this is exactly what you need, to be put in
your place, but as much as them telling you straight all the time annoys you,
you love them for it.
2) They know exactly how you feel by just
looking at your facial expression. If you’re upset, even behind the smile
you’re trying to fake, they know. If you’re holding in anger they know that
you’re about to have an outburst. If you’re happy when you’re around them, they
share this happiness but never try to fool your best friend.
3) They can literally read your mind. It’s
like a strange telepathy. Sometimes you finish each other’s sentences and then
laugh about it after. When you’re trying to keep something from someone and
you’re scared your best friend is going to blurt it out, you can rest assured
that they know you’re trying to dodge an unwanted awkward bullet.
4) They bring you things to cheer you up when
you’re ill. Mostly chocolate, sweets or ice cream and they feed you cures
to your illness until you’re ready to hang out with them again away from the
pit of germs that you have been laying in for the past week. This is a basic
duty of a best friend. It’s the fundamental rules of a best friend friendship.
5) If you fall over, they don’t help you up,
they get their phone out and snapchat that shit. You and your best friend
have each others backs 24/7, but they do love to embarrass you and will jump at
the opportunity for people to see that you can be an idiot some times (and that
they’re the cooler one.)
6) They know all of your favourite things. You
can be sure that they’re not going to buy you bad presents for your birthday
because they know exactly the things that you love and the things that you
hate.
7) They know you better than you know
yourself. They know you inside and out
and sometimes they have you second-guessing the kind of person that you are.
They know your weaknesses, how to piss you off, how to make you smile and how
to make you laugh until your stomach muscles ache and your cheeks feel like
they’re about to fall off. Sometimes you worry that they might know too much
about you.
8) They are not afraid to tell you that the
boy you are dating isn’t right for you. You might really really really
really really like someone, but your best friend can tell from a mile away if
someone is right for you or not. They know your type and they’re not afraid to
tell you that they’re completely and utterly wrong for you. You also always
trust that your best friends opinion is right and they’re only telling you that
someone is wrong for you because they don’t want to see you get hurt.
9) You diet together and cheat together. You
promise each other that you’re going to be good on your new diet and treat your
body like a temple yet within 24 hours you’re texting each other saying that
you’ve eaten a bar of chocolate and you feel extremely guilty. Then you promise
you wont do it again until the week after that when you have both given up
watching a chick flick and eating ice cream whilst lying in bed.
10) Your nights out together are always EPIC! You
dance all night long without a care in the world because you know you’re making
memories with your best friend. You sing and dance like an idiot because you
know they don’t care. You get drunk together and you hold each other’s hair
when you get home and can’t hold in the obscene amounts of vodka redbull that
you’ve tried to consume over the course of the night.
11) You always have a shoulder to cry on. They
know how ugly you look when you cry so you’re not afraid to let it all out. They
know that sometimes you cry over the most stupid things but they don’t care
because they just want to see you happy and if that means crying, then they
deal with it by offering you a well-needed shoulder.
12) Most importantly, you can’t imagine life
without them. You can’t even comprehend that they might not be your best
friend forever, because you know that they will. You can go months without
seeing them and you will always go back to being the silly two friends that you’ve
always been. You will always be best friends no matter what and in 50 years you
hope that your grandchildren will be playing together so you can see them make
the same mistakes that as best friends, you did.
